Harlan (Hal) Clifford, Orion‘s Executive Editor, has had an offer he couldn’t refuse. Soon he’ll begin working for two months at a reduced schedule at Orion so he can focus on a short-term project for which he will serve as creative director and writer. Hal writes,

The project, as currently envisioned, is a 90-minute documentary film about the nature of progress in the contemporary West, the thrust being that our collective ideas about progress have changed in the past and are changing now. It will entail both extensive historical and archival material, and profiles of present-day practitioners of new ways of inhabiting the western landscape. The working title is The Next, Best West.”

The westerners here in the office are hoping he can help save the west from developers…
