On Cold-Weather Vegetables

Potatoes, squash, Brussels sprouts, kale—the earth’s offerings this time of year are hardier, more demanding than the easy leaves of summer. But for those willing to apply a bit of muscle and time, they offer something special, too.

This Thanksgiving, before you start chopping and peeling, baking and broiling, listen to Katrina Vandenberg read “On Cold-Weather Vegetables,” her ode to all that’s stringy and colorful from the September/October 2010 issue.

From all of us at Orion, happy Thanksgiving.
