CSI Skill Tree: Cloud Gardens

February 23, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST

As part of Arizona State University’s CSI Skill Tree series, we examine and celebrate how video games envision possible futures, build rich and thought-provoking worlds, and engage people as active participants in unfolding and interpreting stories.

Join the Center for Science and the Imagination and Orion for our latest event, featuring Cloud Gardens, a 2020 gardening game about using plants to overgrow and transform abandoned post-industrial landscapes.

At once soothing and cryptic, Cloud Gardens uses pastel colors and calming music to raise questions about the boundaries we construct between organic and built environments, the human and the nonhuman, the sublime and the dystopian.

Our special guests are Ken Liu, a contributing writer to Orion and an award-winning author of science fiction and fantasy, including the silkpunk series The Dandelion Dynasty, and Liz Fiacco, a video game designer who has worked on Kena: Bridge of Spirits, The Last of Us 2, and Uncharted 4.

Register for FREE here.

Note on timing: The event will run from 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Arizona time, which is 1:00 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. Eastern time and 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Pacific time.
